The Spatial Audio Innovation Lab (SAIL) is research laboratory dedicated to advancing the field of spatial audio through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative technologies. Located in Campus 204, SAIL focuses on five core areas: acoustic modeling for simulating complex sound environments, advanced acoustic measurement techniques for parameter extraction, deep learning-based upmixing for multichannel audio conversion, HRTF-driven sound manipulation for immersive experiences, and diffusion models for high-fidelity audio generation. SAIL fosters collaboration across disciplines such as computer science, electrical engineering, music, and cognitive science, while also partnering with the audio industry to translate research into practical applications. The lab is committed to educational outreach, and publishing high-impact research. SAIL is equipped with state-of-the-art tools to support cutting-edge spatial audio research, including a sound level meter for precision acoustic measurements, a 5.1 surround sound system for immersive playback and testing, high-performance GPU workstations for computationally intensive tasks like deep learning and audio processing. The lab also features specialized DSP boards and audio processing equipment for real-time signal manipulation and hardware prototyping, enabling researchers to develop and validate innovative algorithms with professional-grade fidelity.
