The lab's activity is integrated as a main direction into the research strategy of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ETTI), to develop an autonomous intelligent vehicle and an electric vehicle with many energy sources. Collaboration with industrial partners, Renault Technologie Roumanie (RTR), Continental, Infineon, Microchip, NXP Semiconductors, promotes innovation through technological transfer from academia to industry. In 2014, was started a strategic partnership between ETTI and RTR, allowing development of common interest projects and the access to the facilities of both partners. RTR has donated a Renault Logan 2 car with the engine control unit specialized for research and development. The research areas cover applied electronics for automotive, sensors, signal processing, artificial intelligence, computer vision, embedded systems, power electronics, automotive communications systems. Current research activities include development of electronic systems for: automatic control of the vehicle movement (steering, brakes, acceleration), environment exploration using different sensors (radar, lidar, infrared, ultrasounds, video), parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, instruments clusters, diagnosis through OBD interface, management of batteries cells.
