Presentation guidelines
Presenters are requested to prepare their presentations as follows. Please carefully refer to the Conference Program to check the presentation date, time, and type. For workshops, please follow the instructions from the workshop organizers.
Oral Presentations
The actual presentation time (without the questions from the audience), for each oral session, is as following:
- Oral sessions 1, 2, 3 and 4: 12 minutes. You also have a poster presentation, please check the instructions below and the conference program;
- Best paper candidates: 15 minutes. You also have a poster presentation, please check the instructions below and the conference program;
- Special session on "Beyond semantics: multimodal understanding of subjective properties": 12 minutes;
- Special session on "Identifying and Linking Interesting Content in Large Audiovisual Repositories": 12 minutes;
- Brave new ideas: 12 minutes;
- Open software: 15 minutes;
- Doctoral symposium: 15 minutes.
Oral Spotlight Presentations
Each spotlight presentation consists of a 5 minutes video that highlights and summarizes their paper and will run during the Oral Sessions 1-4. The slides are on the video, we do not mean you should make a video recording of yourself presenting. Authors will be talking in front of their video as it plays projected on the main screen. Note that the audio channel from your video will NOT be used. Also, there will be no time allotted for “questions” after each spotlight. There is no template for the videos, however, authors are requested to include a title screen for their paper.
All video spotlight presentations have also a poster presentation during the conference Poster session. Please check the instructions below and the conference program.
Video format: the video should be .MP4 (Mpeg4), HD resolution (1080p preferred, 720p accepted), with H264 encoding (the default for almost all MP4 encoders). It should NOT be an AVI file or a MOV but a proper MP4. If you prepare your presentation using PowerPoint you can time your slides and save the presentation as a video directly from PowerPoint. Some instructions on how to do this can be found here. You will then need to convert the WMV video into MP4 (e.g., via YouTube or FFMPEG). Alternatively, there are many free screen capture programs that directly produce proper MP4: VLC which works on all platforms, OBS for Windows, Mac or Linux, TinyTake for Windows or Mac, for Windows 10 there is the built-in recorder, for Mac there is the built in QuickTime (which will need to be exported as MP4 as the default is MOV) (information courtesy of ECCV 2016).
Submit your video: The video spotlight can be submitted with your camera ready paper as supplementary material. The size limitation is however 150 MB. The video spotlight should be also submitted to the Proceedings Chairs at proceedings@icmr2017.ro. You can use any regular file transfer service (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc). When preparing your video, please keep in mind the legal restrictions, e.g., do not use footage or images which you are not entitled to distribute beyond fair use, do no use images that may cause offense to some people, etc. We reserve the right to withdraw videos we believe to be outside these guidelines.
Presenters are requested to be present at the podium at least 15 minutes before the start of their oral session, introduce themselves to the session Chair as soon as they arrive and upload their video spotlight on the presentation laptop (a Windows based computer). For practical reasons, all the video spotlights will be run from the conference laptop. We strongly recommend presenters to check the compatibility of their video before the session starts.
Poster Presentations
Each paper in a poster session will be provided with an A0 board, portrait oriented. The poster board size is a hard limit, overflow space cannot be guaranteed, especially on the sides. A presenting author is expected to be available in front of the poster for the entire duration of the poster session.
Demo Presentations
Each demonstrator will be provided with a table, a power outlet, an LCD screen (~24") and wireless Internet access. If your demo has special requirements that exceed this, please contact the Demo Chairs as soon as possible (demonstrations@icmr2017.ro). Each demo should be set-up before the session (e.g., during the coffee break) and removed after the session. Demonstrators must be in the demo space and present their demonstrations during the session-time.
